About Joe Gosen

I've been involved with photography and the visual arts for more than 25 years and has committed much of that time to photojournalism. After earning a bachelor's degree in photojournalism from San Jose State University in 1988, I worked as a photographer and a graphic artist at newspapers and for wire services in California, Florida and Nevada for more than a decade.

In 2000, I earned a master's degree in journalism from the University of Nevada, Reno. A year later I joined the visual journalism faculty at Brooks Institute in Ventura, Calif., where I teach across the curriculum (photojournalism, publication design, ethics, news writing, audio storytelling). In addition, I led three overseas documentary projects for the school - Argentina in 2005, China in 2006 and Ireland in 2007.

Outside of shooting and teaching, I enjoy being one of the founding partners of "SportsShooter.Com" - which is an online resource for sports photographers and photojournalists.

I reside in a peaceful canyon in Ojai, California with my wife, Nicky, and our 3-year-old son, Jack, both of whom inspire most of my blog entries.
